Special Needs Programmes
An effective special needs programme is managed by the SENCO (Special Education Needs Coordinator) in conjunction with a specialist teacher, class teachers, visiting agencies and teacher aides. If concerns have been identified, students are assessed and appropriate professional help is provided either individually, in small groups or within their own class but always in a positive and caring environment. A wide range of programmes typically feature especially for writing and maths in the middle and senior schools. Just some examples of other programmes include reading recovery, maths recovery, phonics and phonemic awareness, and fine and gross motor skills.
